Jodhpur is the second largest city in Rajasthan standing at the edge of the Thar Desert. Known as the Blue City as most of the buildings in the old city are painted indigo blue. Very disappointed as we didn't get taken into the old town. I was told the roads were too narrow for the cars. When I asked don't we get the chance to walk through, there wasn't a real answer as to why so had to move on from there.Very hot day today around 38deg. It always feels hotter than it is because there has been no wind at all. A little wind would help cope with the heat. Last night here and off to Udaipur tomorrow for our last two nights in India.
Had a walk around our Hotel before our pick up. It is quite different more of a holiday resort with all the tropical gardens.Buildings are different from other hotels. Above is where you can have evening dinner out in the open. Best time for the temperature is in the evenings. Very tropical.
The pool area
The bar is the building above the pool.
Entrance lounge to the Hotel very traditional.
First stop today was the Mehrangarh Fort. It is situated on a natural rock where you get a panorama view of the city below.
The gates of the Fort
Looking up the side of the Fort.
When we got to the top of the Fort and looked over the side there was the old town with its indigo blue buildings. I really wished that I could have got up close to these buildings 😢
The morning was very misty which it often is so couldn't get good photos.
PT and our guide for the day.
Inside one of the courtyards.
The queens carriage. In two sections as her lady in waiting sits in front with a fan to keep her cool.
One of the meeting rooms.
Right at the top looking out over the city.
The kings bedroom
These are swinging cribs for the babies.
This room was the Kings meeting room for his parliament. His ministers sat on the cushion areas around him. It was last used as a parliament in 1949. Beautiful windows.
Walking down the ramp to exit the Fort.
This group we're playing the music. Had to tip for the photo........
Our next adventure was what they called a jeep safari in the rural Bishnoi Village. We thought we were going to see animals but we were taken out of the city to the edge of the Thar Desert to see how families live. The roads were so rough to get there and the village was so back in time. So dusty. Broken roads, a real eye opener and I was so taken aback didn't even think to get a photo.
This man is making clay pots to store the families water in. He slowly beats the sides with this tool, and has one hand inside to form the shape. Takes about half hour to make
The above is making all sorts of different pots on this wheel. This shows how he gets it spinning using a stick. He then has about twelve minutes before it stops spinning.
He is so quick, he got three different pots made and it was still spinning.
Two of the finished products
We then went to see how a family live in very primitive surrounds which you could see inside these different rooms.
This chap was making opium water but we are not sure why. He filtered water through Camel skin to purify it then mixed it with the opium and drank it. Possibly instead of alcohol. We were looking at each other thinking gosh hope he doesn't expect us to try it but no he didn't. Then he did a little ceremony
I realised too late that I didnt get a good photo of the Desert. But similar to this. This was a water hole for the cattle.
Going down the sandy road had to pass this load of feed for the cattle. We have seen a lot of this transportation. Mostly mass not that heavy.
We then went onto a small carpet making home and sat and watched a chap doing weaving of a carpet but by this time PT could see how the heat was affecting me so he said to our guide that he wanted to go as I was struggling with the heat. Realised later that I didn't get a photo of him. We are not sure if there were any other family businesses that we were going to see but we were taken straight back to the hotel. I think that there were a couple of other sight seeing places we missed out on but it was nice to get out of the heat back to the hotel and straight into the pool. The further south we go the hotter it gets. If only there was some breeze. Off to Udaipur tomorrow for our last two nights in India. I believe it's going to be another big driving day but at least the car is well air conditioned. We have quite a spectacular Temple to see en route.
This is our hotel room key. While the padlock stays in the hotel lock of course but the key and tag itself weigh something like half a kg.
