JAIPUR to PUSHKAR

After breakfast we left Jaipur at 10.00am and drove to the holy city of Pushkar (150kms / 3hours).  This town is a completely vegetarian and don't serve alcohol. Only one night here.  We arrived about 1.00pm settled into our room then went down for a swim as we were not being picked up until 4.00pm to meet our guide to do a tour of Pushkar city. This is the first swim we have had since arriving in India. Never seems to be time. This is the smallest city we have visited with a population of 24000.

This is our car we have been transported in. 'Tis very comfortable and we have a very good driver.

When we were having breakfast this morning before we left Jaipur the Hilton hotel staff gathered around our table and thanked us for staying with them  and presented this little cake. They were such a great staff really looked after us.

Leaving Jaipur and on the other side traffic coming into Jaipur was banked up two lanes of big trucks for a several kms.

Arriving at our Hotel looked flash, 15 minutes out of Pushkar town. Called the Gateway Resort ,

Nice big room so far had nice big king sized beds very comfortable.

When we arrived at the hotel we were presented with a red dot. Can't remember what it stood for but some form of greeting. (No not a dairy)

Hanging over our balcony  looking over the beautiful gardens and swimming pool. We had a nice swim to cool us down after the heat travelling in the car. Very nice.

Standing up on the front entrance where we were waiting for our driver to pick us up at 4.00pm to meet our guide to show us the town

The mosque

The White Temple

We where now being taken for a walk through the market area which without realising we were going to walk right round the town lake . Which sits in the centre of the town

We arrived down at the lake side to sit and watch everyone as at sunset the religious callings start and everyone gathers  around then all the music starts.

The last of the sun looking across the lake.

The sun is nearly down nice glow over the lake.

Always the faithful cows watching you.

The sun has just about gone.

To cross this bridge, we had to take our shoes off to walk across bare footed. It is called the Holy bridge. This is our local guide with PT.

Then the sun has gone and all the religious calling and music start up something which was quite different for us. The dog is enjoying the music.

If you look up on the balcony a lady in a red dress came out and sat down to watch. Also notice there is no railings, the wall would be only about 18 inches high. Imagine that back home.

People sitting around the waterfront.

We continued into the night walking right round the lake through all the markets. Motorbikes up and down the narrow streets where everyone was walking, quite dangerous. And of course the cows. Plenty of cows.

After three hours of meeting our guide at seven (3 hours later) we finished. Interesting city quite different as very religious hence called the holy city. Another new experience. We were so hot and tired and just couldn't wait to get back to our nice hotel as we only have one night here. We are being picked up at 9.00am to go and have a camel ride, then straight onto Jodhpur.
